Thank you to Jackie Martin for the June 29 article regarding the Supreme Court decision of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization which overturned the 1973 decision of Roe v. Wade, which had effectively made abortion legal in the U.S. for all nine months of pregnancy for any reason.

https://www.thenewsherald.com/2022/06/27/reaction-to-landmark-roe-v-wade-has-many-downriver-lawmakers-vowing-to-fight/embed/#?secret=Ew62R0HlOG

I am grateful for the quotations in response to that decision of so many of our Downriver elected officials. These Democrats (U.S. Reps. Debbie Dingell and Rashida Tlaib, state Rep. Darrin Camilleri, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer) can no longer hide behind a rhetoric of vague compassion. Their words tell clearly that they are in favor of allowing and encouraging through the power of government, the annual slaughter of nearly 1 million babies in the womb. These children, the future of our country, are being murdered daily for their crime of being inconvenient, the wrong sex, or imperfect.

This November, we voters have the responsibility to replace these legislators by electing candidates who will defend the weakest members of society. Only the Republican party platform of 2016, reissued in 202,0 reiterates the Declaration of Independence that declares the inalienable right to life as well as the need to strengthen families of a mother and father with their natural children as the means to give more children a path to success which in turn strengthens our country.

In that same issue of The News-Herald, columnist Craig Farrand expressed his flawed opinion and disappointment at the SCOTUS decision. He touts the core foundations of “personal freedoms, privacy, a separation of church and state, limits to government intrusion and, ultimately, the right to live your life as you see fit – as long as your beliefs don’t translate into actions that inflict themselves on anyone else.”  But that’s the flaw because abortion is an action that directly kills the unborn child, a separate person from the mother.

I was most offended by his flawed analysis when he claims that three justices were illegitimate appointments because he did not consider President Trump to have been properly elected. Following the wisdom of the Constitution and election laws governing our republic, Donald Trump was duly and legally elected. There is no reason to continue the sour grapes attitude and disrespect of our former president.

I do agree with Mr. Farrand that we should “elect people at the national and state levels who will defend … the rights of minorities, the weak and those in need.” Unborn babies and their mothers certainly fall into that category.

The people of Michigan have a long history of defending a culture of life.

• 1846 – Michigan law banned abortion

• 1931 – When the Michigan legal code was updated, the 1846 law was unchanged

• 1972 – Ballot proposal that would have legalized abortion was defeated 61% to 39% (This was invalidated by the Roe v. Wade decision of Jan. 22, 1973.)

• 1988 – Through a petition drive and vote of 57% to 43%, a ban on tax-funded Medicaid abortions was enacted

• 1998 – Vote of 71% to 29% made assisted suicide illegal

• 2013 – A successful petition drive for initiated legislation eliminated (Obamacare) mandated abortion coverage in health insurance plans

There are 150 pregnancy help centers in Michigan (1-800-57-WOMAN) with four of them Downriver.  They offer material help and various levels of medical help and support for mothers and families in need. They are prepared to expand their services to help more mothers during pregnancy and after their baby’s birth.

In 1980, the Democrat party made the choice not to defend the lives of the unborn. Although Downriver has long been a Democrat stronghold, it is time to change that for the most foundational issue of justice in our time. We can debate policy, taxes, how to fund the roads and other issues, but protecting human life is nonnegotiable.

During the ratification process of the U.S. Constitution, George Washington wrote the following which is still good advice:

“No one can rejoice more than I do at every step taken by the People of this great Country to preserve the Union — establish good order & government — and to render the Nation happy at home & respected abroad. No Country upon Earth ever had it more in its power to attain these blessings than United America. Wonderously strange then, & much to be regretted indeed would it be, were we to neglect the means, and to stray from the road to which the finger of Providence has so manifestly pointed. I cannot believe it will ever come to pass! The great Author of all good has not conducted us so far on the Road to happiness and glory to withdraw from us, in the hour of need, his beneficent support. By folly & misconduct (proceeding from a variety of causes) we may now & then get bewildered; but I hope, and trust, that there is good sense and virtue enough left to bring us back into the right way before we shall be entirely lost.”

We will continue to pray and work to defend the lives of the innocent babies in the womb who have no voice.

Planned Parenthood Celebrates Defeat of Bill to Ban Killing Girls in Sex-Selection Abortions

Life News

Excerpts from LifeNews.com:  “The Planned Parenthood abortion business today celebrated the defeat of pro-life legislation in Louisiana that would ban killing girls (or boys) in sex-selection abortions.

After research has shown that the practice of sex-selection abortion has made its way from Asian nations to the United States, pro-life advocates are moving forward with legislation to ban sex-selection abortions that target girl babies.

HB 701, the legislation aimed at preventing sex-selective abortion in Louisiana, was stalled today by a 2-2 vote in the State Senate Judiciary B Committee. Senators J.P. Morrell and Karen Carter Peterson voted against the bill, and Senators Norby Chabert and Eric Lafleur voted in favor of the bill.

After the vote, the nation’s biggest abortion company applauded what it hailed as the defeat of the pro-life legislation…….

This isn’t the first time Planned Parenthood has been on record supporting sex-selection abortions. Last year, in a letter to members of the California state legislature, the abortion giant opposed another ban on sex-selection abortions.”

If you are pro-life and want to read the entire article, please click on:

Which is it?  According to Planned Parenthood and pro-choice, the fetus is not a HUMAN baby despite the fact that at the time of conception the sperm merges its 23 HUMAN chromosomes into the egg which has the other 23 HUMAN chromosomes and together this forms a HUMAN being,  a BABY.  Even once a sex is determined (girl vs. boy), they obviously still don’t consider the fetus being a human child.  In my way of thinking, they can’t have it both ways.  No other species has our 46 chromosomes and from the moment of conception these chromosomes will determine not only the sex, the eye color, the hair color, and all other attributes of a HUMAN being.  Where does it stop?   Maybe the agenda of their idol, Margaret Sanger, is still their ultimate goal!  Don’t want a baby – just kill it!  Don’t want a particular gender – just kill it?  Don’t want a particular race – just kill it!  Don’t want a baby with blond hair – just kill it!  Don’t want a baby who isn’t perfect – just kill it!

The definition of “EXTERMINATION” begins, and quickly becomes the mass killing legally called “genocide”.   It is “extermination” to the killers because they do not believe their victims to be fully human.  Read the page on this site about “Margaret Sanger” and then tell me how her agenda is NOT the agenda of Planned Parenthood.

U.S. House of Representatives Passed the Pain Capable Abortion Ban!

npla_hdrAccording to the National Pro-Life Alliance:

“Just minutes ago, thanks to the pressure of NPLA members and other pro-lifers, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Pain Capable Abortion Ban by a vote of 242 to 184!

Now the fight will continue in the U.S. Senate where it is sure to face intense opposition from the abortion lobby.

But forcing any vote on protecting unborn babies capable of feeling pain throughout their entire bodies is a clear political winner.

In addition to saving thousands of lives each year, every vote on this bill exposes pro-abortion politicians as the radicals they are for refusing to support any restrictions on abortion-on-demand.

And thanks to the pro-life advances in the last election, you and I have never been better positioned to force a vote on late-term abortions.

So if you haven’t already, please sign the petition to your two U.S. Senators and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell” by clicking the link below:.

CALL TO IMMEDIATE ACTION!

nchla_longbanner

Dear Friend,

It is anticipated that this week the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36). The bill was originally introduced by Reps. Trent Franks (R-AZ) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) in January. Rep. Franks is proposing an amended version this week.

Time is short; a vote is expected this Wednesday. Respond to send a message of support to your Representative immediately!  Please click https://www.votervoice.net/NCHLA/Campaigns/38155/Respond

Since there is substantial medical evidence that an unborn child is capable of experiencing pain at least by 20 weeks after fertilization, H.R. 36 asserts a compelling governmental interest in protecting unborn children from this stage. With limited exceptions, the bill makes it unlawful to perform or attempt to perform an abortion if the probable post-fertilization age of the unborn child is 20 weeks or greater.

Thanks for all that you do in support of life! Together we will be heard.

Amy McInerny
Executive Director

The following information is from Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director, Priests for Life

They Feel Pain; Let’s Protect Them

Historic legislation, focusing on the pain children feel when they are killed in the womb by abortion, will be voted on in the US House of Representatives this week, possibly on the second anniversary (May 13) of the conviction of abortionist Kermit Gosnell. His trial raised the public’s awareness of late term abortion.

The measure is called the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” (H.R. 36), and says that from the point of 20 weeks of development forward, children in the womb may not be killed by abortion.

These children do feel pain, and protecting children from pain is a good motive for the state to protect them from abortion.

Consider the fact that, not so long ago, it was thought that newborns could not feel pain. Surgery was carried out on newborn and premature infants with minimal or no anesthesia. But since 1986, this practice has been unacceptable, and it is recognized that they can experience severe pain.
Pain cannot be measured directly. The unborn child cannot say “Ouch!” What has to be examined instead are things like stress reactions, measured by the release of certain hormones in the blood, and the presence of the various anatomical structures necessary for the transmission and perception of pain. Studies have shown various hormonal reactions as well as “full body response,” when the whole body reacts to a painful stimulus rather than just one part of the body as would happen with a reflex. Moreover, the unborn child at this stage has the three key elements needed for pain perception: the pain sensors throughout the body, the thalamus of the brain, and the nerve pathways connecting the two, via the spinal cord. The cerebral cortex of the brain is not necessary in order to feel pain.

Moreover, the unborn may actually feel more pain than the adult because there is evidence that the mechanisms that inhibit pain seem to develop after those that enable the perception of pain.
And these are the things we need to talk about when discussing this legislation with family, friends, church leaders, and coworkers. Don’t talk so much about a “limit” or “restriction on abortion,” as valid as that is. Talk about the reality that these babies feel pain. Most people who oppose banning abortion nevertheless also care about protecting babies from pain.

Now President Obama, because of his own positions and because of the obsession that the Democratic Party has with permitting the killing of children in the womb, would veto this legislation if it came to his desk. But we will have a president in the White House before long who will sign this legislation. And the process must start now, just as the process to protect children from partial-birth abortion started under the Democratic pro-abortion president Bill Clinton. This will be a multi-Congress effort. The debates have to be held, positions and arguments have to be developed, legislators have to go on record, and the public has to be educated. Moreover, a legislator’s position on such a bill should be an election issue if he or she is running for office in 2016.

From a moral dimension, every abortion is equally wrong, though the wrongness of every abortion is not equally evident to the public. Our goal is to protect every child, but if the legislative will is not present to protect all the children now, it is not only morally permissible but morally obligatory to do everything we can to protect the children that the legislative body is willing to protect at the present time. Some people mistakenly think that because this law does not protect every child now, that we should not be in favor of it. They mistakenly think we are guilty for not doing what we cannot do. But that is not true. We become guilty, instead, for not doing what we can do, and this bill, when it becomes law, could in fact save approximately 18,000 lives a year in America.
ACTION ALERT: Help us Protect Children from Painful Abortions!

Join me in the next chapter of the effort to restore legal protection to children in the womb!
I have written to you before about the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,
A piece of legislation that protects children in the womb from 20 weeks of development forward.
Why 20 weeks?  Because, given the fact that such babies can feel pain by that time, and that most of the public favors protecting such children from abortion, a majority of lawmakers are now ready to pass such a bill!

And in fact they have passed it in about a dozen states, and even in the US House of Representatives in the last Congress!  Now, the current Congress is ready to vote on it again – this week!  Let me say at the outset that of course, we are determined to protect every baby and stop ALL abortion.  And we reach that goal step by step, by protecting now the babies that we are able to protect through legislation that we have enough support to enact. After all, they are persons, they deserve protection now, and the fact that others aren’t protected yet doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be.

I firmly believe that the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” is the most significant piece of pro-life legislation to be introduced so far on the federal level, and is the next chapter in our ongoing battle to end abortion.

Please make a phone call today to your Representative in Congress to urge him or her to vote for this bill. I will give you information below as to how best to do that.

The House bill is called H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
This bill is a nightmare for the abortion industry. Not only do they not want to see it passed, but they don’t even want it discussed.  Imagine the anxiety caused to the abortion business when people start talking about the pain the child feels when her arms and legs are torn off by the abortionist who is paid to do so!

We can stop this painful dismemberment of children through this Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.  As you know, our country has already prohibited on the federal level (and in many states) the particular procedure of partial-birth abortion. That, too, was a step forward.
But whereas that law stops only one method of killing these children, the Pain-Capable bill would protect those same children from any and all methods of killing!

And you can help advance this legislation with a simple phone call.
So please click here for the information http://www.priestsforlife.org/alert/alert.aspx?id=65 on how to make that phone call today, and what to say.

And please forward this email to as many other people as you can!
