Our experience at the 46th annual March For Life inspired and strengthened us to continue working to promote a culture of life in the Jewish community. During his hour long podcast aired from the stage, Ben Shapiro fired up the massive crowd with his pointed arguments debunking the illogical and deceitful reasons given for abortion.

Thousands of anti-abortion demonstrators  marched in the nation’s capitol Friday to protest abortion in the United States.  Among the protesters are more than 500 Michigan people, mainly students, from West Michigan, and as the video shows three buses from the downriver area.

We took the bus organized by Joe Connors of Southern Downriver Right to Life.  Students from Gabriel Richard High School and St. Frances Cabrini High School along with some adults filled three buses.  We drove overnight Thursday and met others, including the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist at the Ohio Turnpike rest stop.  Some of us attended the 7:30 am Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.  The students and teachers attended the Youth Rally and Mass at the Capital One Arena while others attended the Pro-Life Exhibition at the Renaissance Hotel.  Everyone then attended the March for Life Rally on the National Mall which was followed by the two hour March for Life up Constitution Avenue, around the Capitol building and finishing at the Supreme Court.  Estimates were that 400,000 peaceful, joyful, prayerful people of all ages participated to bring attention to the need to end the killing of children in the womb to protect the babies and the mothers.  Following the March, many women at a podium in front of the Supreme Court were Silent No More and woman after woman told the story of her personal tragedy and recovery after abortion declaring that she wants no more babies to die and mothers to suffer, so she is “Silent No More!”

Chris Gast, communications and education director for Right to Life Michigan, told 24 Hour News 8, “We have 18 buses from all around Michigan going to the March for Life in Washington D.C.”

Kristan Hawkins, Executive Director of Students for Life of America, says as ultrasound technology becomes more widely available, it’s making a difference in how young people view the issue of life. In fact, the younger generation has never been as pro-life as it is today.”
