Right to Life Volunteers Needed

jjj

Upper Downriver Right to Life usually takes the summer off and has no meetings in July and August.  This summer is an exception.

On June 20, many of us attended the training held by Right to Life of Michigan.  We learned about the legislation that was passed that would ban dismemberment abortions.  Governor Whitmer has promised to veto it.  The state constitution provides a means to by-pass the veto.

We will join with Right to Life of Michigan and collect signatures on petitions to ban dismemberment abortion.  You can read the press release from RLM here.

For your convenience, UD-RTL will hold two special meetings of one hour to explain the situation, enlist the help of volunteers from churches and distribute petitions.  Please make plans to attend one of these meetings.
  • Tuesday, July 9 from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at the Right to Life Resource Center, 2010 Eureka, Wyandotte (734-282-6100)
  • Wednesday, July 10 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the same location.
Please help us recruit representatives from as many churches as possible and RSVP to wyandotteRLM@gmail.com as to which session you plan to attend.  We will have information and petitions available at the meetings.  We need your help to secure our share of the 400,000 signatures needed.  Please invite others who may be interested!

If you need a letter to a pastor, please let me know and I will get it to you.

Also, please watch our “Events” page on our Facebook account and volunteer for any of the upcoming events, or for various committees that put together an event.  Often times we need people to make phone calls, or help stuff envelopes, hand out flyers, and join us in our parades, Life Walk, Oratory Contests, Life Chain, our Yard and Bake Sale, and so many other opportunities to reach out to help.

Wyandotte Street Art Fair

art fair pic

Dates:  Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 10-13, 2019

Hours: 10 AM to 9 PM daily.

In the city described as “The Heart of Downriver”, our annual Art Fair draws artists, entertainers, and thousands of patrons to create an event that people of all ages can enjoy.  The fair traces its history back to 1961, in the city along the shore of the Detroit River, among it’s historic and charming downtown area. The 58th Street Art Fair will bring you days of fun, food, entertainment, and art and crafts created from across the state, region and nation, including pottery, wood, fiber, metal, drawings, furniture, basketry, jewelry, cartoons, sculptures, toys, clothing, painting, and so many other types of crafts to look at, or to buy.

As one of the largest fine art fairs in the State of Michigan, the event also offers a variety of music, food, and activities for all ages, and has brought us over 200,000 visitors, 200 artists, 25 restaurants, and a multitude of local merchants, carnival type games for the children, and live entertainment for all to enjoy.  All ages can have fun in a festive environment enjoying the cultural enrichment of Wyandotte.  To see a list of “Entertainment” each day, please scroll down.

Needless to say the Upper Downriver Right to Life will have its table set up close to Elm and 2nd Street, with various pamphlets to read, and a few articles to sell.  We are looking for volunteers for at least two or four hour shifts, but at the very least just stop by and say “hi” to us.

Lincoln Park’s Annual Memorial Day Parade

11183460_560638810745800_728615876701145888_n

Please join Upper Downriver Right to Life on Sunday, May 19, 2019, as we “Stand Up For Life” in Lincoln Park’s Annual Memorial Day Parade.  The parade begins at 1:00 P.M.

We still have not received our unit number or line up position, but we’ll probably line up again on White Street a couple blocks off of Fort Street.  We will be getting  that information, so watch our Facebook page this week, or another good alternative would be to ask anyone with a clipboard where the Upper Downriver parade unit is located.

There will be patriotic music coming from our unit.  We plan to use our new portable sound system in all parades from here on out!  Also, Rosalie’s brand new red vehicle will be used in our unit.  AS A REMINDER, the parade runs from Southfield Road down Fort Street to the Band Shelter.  Park either behind the auto part store located at the corner of Fort Street and Southfield or back behind that area a few streets away in the residential section.  If needed, we will drive you back to your vehicle after the parade.  The parade will be finished by 2:00 P.M.  WE NEED YOU TO HELP PASS OUT CARDS AND CANDY.

PLAN TO HONOR GOD’S GIFT OF LIFE TO YOU AS WELL AS THE UNBORN.  PUT IT ON OUR CALENDAR NOW!

Trenton Memorial Day March for Life

Southern Downriver Right to Life has invited us to join them in their Trenton Memorial Day March for Life.

“Nothing could be finer than to be in Trenton, Michigan in the morning!  Nothing could be sweeter than Right to Lifers marching in the morning!”

With apologies to Dean Martin, Al Jolson, Judy Garland, & the Carolinas, we need you next Saturday, May 27th at the Trenton Memorial Day Parade.

The parade is  relatively short, about 1 mile, and is a lot of fun!

Because  West Rd. is under construction, we will gather at King Rd. and Westfield.  The line-up starts at 9:30 AM, and the parade starts at 10:00. We will  march south on Westfield from King  to Fort Street. Parking is available at Trenton High School and the Kennedy Ice Arena.   Wear any Right to Life attire you have: shirts, pins, hats, etc. Otherwise, wear something with a patriotic (red, white, & blue) theme. If you don’t have any of this stuff, don’t worry, you will be just fine.

This is a great way to get a little exercise and stand-up for The Right to Life, the very first right Thomas Jefferson wrote about in our Declaration of Independence.

It will be beautiful parade in a beautiful city on a beautiful spring day.

But it will not compare with the beautiful smile on the Good Lord’s face when He sees YOU marching for His unborn children in the Trenton Memorial Day Parade.

So go ahead.  Put a smile on God’s face.  See you there.”

We also hope that you will  take the time to contact Michigan’s two (2) U.S. Senators, expressing your support of the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch  to the Supreme Court. This is a very easy task and should take only five (5) minutes.  It’s just a matter of leaving a short message with the receptionist.  Don’t worry; they won’t argue, they work for you !  Just express your wishes to the senator.

Message: “I’m calling to ask the Senator to please allow an up-or-down vote on Judge Neil Gorsuch for the U.S. Supreme Court.  Judge Gorsuch is a well-qualified candidate and deserves a fair hearing.”  Please be courteous and respectful.
