Wayne County Winners of 2018 Pro-Life Oratory Contest

Winners

1st – Michael Carzon, 2nd – Sarah Hornbeck, 3rd – Abraham Hornbeck

Wayne County Right to Life affiliates sponsor the annual Oratory Contest for high school students.  This event involves researching, writing and presenting a speech on abortion, euthanasia, infanticide, stem cell research or cloning. The contest provides the building of their confidence in public speaking, critical thinking and constructing persuasive arguments.  They also learn how to engage others in constructive discussions about life and death issues.

The top three winners receive monetary prizes of $125, $75, and $50 respectively, and their choice of a Pro-Life tee shirt, and the first place winner will advance to the state contest in May.  In June, the state winner then competes at the National Right to Life Committee in Kansas, and the winning student also has the opportunity available to give their presentation at other local events.

High School Pro-Life Oratory Contest

I am writing to share with you an exciting program we have to reach out to youth in Wayne County. Every year, Wayne County Right to Life affiliates sponsor an oratory contest for high school students. This event involves researching, writing and presenting a speech on abortion, euthanasia, infanticide, stem cell research or cloning. Our contest will be held this year at Southgate Library on March 17th at noon so please come out to support and encourage our finalists.

Students receive several benefits from participating in our oratory contest. In addition to building confidence in their public speaking abilities, students gain experience with critical thinking and constructing persuasive arguments. Most importantly, they learn how to engage others in constructive discussion about life and death issues.

Along with the educational benefits, the top three contest winners receive prizes and our first place winner will advance to the state contest sponsored by Right to Life of Michigan in May. In June, the state winner will compete with elite teens from across the country at the National Right to Life Committee oratory contest in Kansas.

Please encourage involvement in this wonderful opportunity. After receiving a student’s application form we will contact them to provide contest rules and further details.  We are also available to make brief presentations to classrooms, youth groups or any other gathering and would be happy to set up a time to do so. Please contact us at (734) 282-6100, if you have questions about our program.
