Life Walkers Defend All Lives

The Life Walk participants represented many more who were unable to join in the two mile walk.  The Christian responsibility to defend life from the moment of conception to natural death was highlighted with the opening prayer by Deacon Richard Bloomfield of Our Lady of the Scapular Catholic Parish in Wyandotte.  The walk began at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Park

The annual peaceful fund raiser walk increases the awareness of the tragedy of abortion and took place Saturday morning, June 6.

After almost three months of lock down due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the outdoor walk offered an opportunity to see like-minded friends for the first time in many months.  While other groups carry signs that Black Lives Matter, the Life Walk group signs declared that ALL human lives matter.  It is significant that although Blacks compose 13% of the population, 50% of all abortions in Michigan kill unborn Black babies. (https://rtl.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/HopeForTomorrow_brochure.pdf)  Abortion is an injustice for all innocent children in the womb and more so for Black babies.

Life Walk participants included the two dozen walkers, young and old, plus twice as many who supported the effort with their pledges.   The walkers came from throughout the Downriver area.  They carried signs declaring, “America for Life for All,” “Abortion Kills Children,” “Life: the First Inalienable Right,” and “Adoption: the Loving Option.”   While walking the two mile route, Ed Kroll, president of Upper Downriver Right to Life noted that the friendly toots of the horns of passing cars and thumbs up responses were significantly more than in previous years.

Following the Life Walk was a potluck picnic.  During the picnic, four passers by took the time to stop and talk and offered donations, increasing the successful fundraiser.

The event was sponsored by Upper Downriver Right to Life, serving Wyandotte, Southgate, Lincoln Park, Ecorse, River Rouge and Southwest Detroit.  Participants included President Joe Connors and other members from Southern Downriver Right to Life.  Both organizations are affiliates of Right to Life of Michigan (www.rtl.org).

Downriver Right to Life 2018 Life Walk

Upper Downriver Right to Life held its successful annual LIFE WALK on Saturday morning, June 9th. The Life Walkers met at the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Park. Despite the threatening rain, 22 walkers represented donations from 106 people for a total of $1364. Dan McGuire turned in the most pledges and was awarded the $100 prize and a medal depicting the Wyandotte Indian family statue.

The group walked northward along Fort Street to the Lincoln Park Crisis Pregnancy Center at Southfield. They were welcomed there with a tour of the facility, looking at the resources available to mothers as well as the counseling rooms. The group then walked back to the church for pizza and a potluck lunch.

Upper Downriver Right to Life – Life Walk 6/3/27

This year’s June Life Walk was a wonderful success.  Good weather, good fellowship,  and a walk from Calvary Lutheran Church in Lincoln Park, past Bethel Assembly of God, and a tour through our local Crisis Pregnancy Center,  led by Ed Kroll.  Dr. Russ Bone welcomed us, and Doug  Thomas led us in prayer at the Church of Christ. We received many “thumbs up” and horn toots as we walked along Fort Street, and ending with an indoor picnic at the starting point.

The two winning Bill Board  Contest submissions were honored and given their $500 award, and it was wonderful to see how many submissions we had in the 13 – 24 age group.  We also had the winner of our last Oratory Contest present, Michael Carzon, who read his winning speech, which was then followed up by Dan McGuire winning a metal and award for bringing in the most contributions.

In total we had 156 who participated in donations, and twenty six walkers.
