Lancaster Amish Organic Farmer Must Pay $250,000, Faces Possible Jail Time For Food Violations

(Excerpts from Amish America)

A Lancaster County Amish farmer faces hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and potential jail time for repeated violations of food safety laws. Miller’s Organic Farm, owned by an Amos Miller in Bird-in-Hand, has been described as “tangling with federal authorities for several years over its food handling practices” in this report…..

U.S. District Judge Edward G. Smith, Jr. found Amos Miller in contempt of court for violating a 2020 consent decree and ordered him to pay $250,000 in fines, plus an additional $14,436 to cover enforcement costs.”

However, Miller “believes many federal regulations lead to food being more unhealthy” and I would gather there’s little chance he would switch his operation to a conventional one which adheres with conventional regulations:

Miller’s Organic Farm’s practices are organic, non-GMO, chemical free, hormone-free and antibiotic-free, according to its website. https://www.millersorganicfarm.com/

“[The cows] get sunshine, they get green grass. If the animals eat good then we can eat good as well,” Miller said. “They use it as their medicine.”

Also on the pro-Amos Miller side, another defender argues that Miller’s products are in high demand and profitable for him, and that the government doesn’t like that.

Miller seems to be presenting the issue as one of keeping his people on the farm rather than out in other occupations, which is a classic argument that resonates with Amish and no doubt with sympathetic observers:

“[I’ll] do do whatever it takes to keep our children on the farm rather than going out into the world looking for jobs, which can not be good in our culture,” said Miller, who is Amish. “If we have to pay it all ourselves, very likely we will not be able to move forward.”

Note: Although not really proven that the milk that sickened two people in other states back in 2015 from Listeria, no recall was made despite the alleged claims made by the FDA.

Bill Gates is the biggest private owner of farmland in the United States. Why?

(Excerpts from “The Guardian”)

Land is power, land is wealth, and, more importantly, land is about race and class....Gates claimed “It is not connected to climate [change].” The decision, he said, came from his “investment group.” Cascade Investment, the firm making these acquisitions, is controlled by Gates. And the firm said it’s “very supportive of sustainable farming”. It also is a shareholder in the plant-based protein companies Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods as well as the farming equipment manufacturer John Deere.

The principal danger of private farmland owners like Bill Gates is not their professed support of sustainable agriculture often found in philanthropic work – it’s the monopolistic role they play in determining our food systems and land use patterns.

Like wealth, land ownership is becoming concentrated into fewer and fewer hands, resulting in a greater push for mono cultures and more intensive industrial farming techniques to generate greater returns. One per cent of the world’s farms control 70% of the world’s farmlands, one report found the biggest shift in recent years from small to big farms was in the US.

Note: Plant-based protein companies are the ones making the artificially tasting products that taste like meat but are made out of plants. Bill Gates is once again setting himself up to make even more multi million dollars than he already has, at the expense of the everyday person’s budget and health. Like the rest of the “Greeners”, they blame cattle flatulence as bad for the climate, or do they? Perhaps that is just one of their many excuses to become monopolies.

Another elitist, Ted Turner owns two million acres of land, and has the world’s largest privately owned buffalo herd. Those animals, which are sacred to my people and were nearly hunted to extinction by settlers, are preserved today on nearly 200,000 acres of Turner’s ranch within the boundaries of South Dakota.

This FDA problem with the Amish isn’t about small farmers breaking any rules, as they live by laws determined by their religious beliefs and legalities allowing them from exemption from FDA rules by having “buyer’s clubs”. A buyer’s club is a way to get around some restrictions on selling raw farm products in some places, allowing product providers to avoid licensing and inspection. This is just another way for the government and wealthy to take away the rights of people so they can gain more land, power, and money.

DEMOCRATS BETRAYED MANCHIN IN ORDER TO GET HIS VOTE!

(Repost from Conservative Brief)

I new this was going to happen and he deserves it because by now he should have known how corrupt the Democrat party is after seeing what has happened up until now, and knowing how they felt about fossil fuel.

Dems Set to Betray Manchin Over Deal to Approve Pipeline In 0Exchange For Inflation Reduction Act Backing.

Sen. Joe Manchin surprised many in the GOP and his own Democratic Party when he announced a deal with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) last month on a new ‘green’ energy spending package.

The West Virginia moderate had been, until that point, one of two members of the Senate — the other being Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) — who had largely held the line against massive spending bills their party had sought as part of President Joe Biden’s agenda.

So when he announced that he agreed to a $750 billion package negotiated with Schumer, that sent shockwaves through both parties.

Subsequent reports following the agreement explained that Schumer had secured Manchin’s approval by pledging that the party would support the construction of a natural gas pipeline in the West Virginia Democrat’s home state, but now, the party appears on the verge of reneging on Schumer’s promise.

In order to facilitate the construction of the pipeline, it would require the passage of additional legislation that would “overhaul the permitting process for energy infrastructure,” according to The American Prospect.

But, far-left members of the Democratic Party in the House are not on board with supporting a measure that “could undercut the IRA’s down payment on clean energy by accelerating approval for energy projects that could ramp up U.S. fossil fuel production and exports of natural gas,” The American Prospect added.

In other words, it looks like Manchin was bamboozled into agreeing to another massive spending bill that economists and experts say will do nothing to actually reduce inflation but will raise taxes on the middle class while significantly expanding the size of the Internal Revenue Service.

The Washington Times also reports that House Democrats are miffed they were excluded from the negotiations led by Schumer. Rep. Jared Huffman, for example, has said he won’t be “steamrolled into a bunch of fossil fuel giveaways just because Manchin cut a deal in a closed room with Chuck Schumer,” the Times reported.

“Handshake deals made by others in closed rooms do not dictate how I vote, and we sure as hell don’t owe Joe Manchin anything now,” Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), a member of the left-wing ‘Squad’ in the House, added. “He and his fossil fuel donors already got far too much in the IRA … and we will vote this dirty deal down, one way or another.”

That said, the party’s far-left faction may not have much choice. While the text of the permitting bill has yet to be released to Congress, it will most likely be “attached to a must-pass government funding bill,” according to the American Prospect. Tlaib and other opponents, however, want the permitting bill to be stand-alone legislation which, if it is, will likely fail in the House.

All of this must come as a rude awakening to Manchin who surrendered his reputation for honesty and fairness only to be sold out by members of his own party.

Manchin not only voted for the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, he introduced it. With an earnest look on his face, he repeatedly tried to convince the American people that the IRA will actually reduce inflation when he knows it will do nothing of the kind. Even Democrats call it a climate and healthcare bill — now that it’s been signed into law.

@Sen_JoeManchin – you are a disgusting #hypocrite. “Inflation reduction act” my ass. What is your proof of no increase in chances of audit? https://t.co/YdSi9cCi1k

Manchin is up for reelection in 2024; the other West Virginia senator is Shelly Capito, a Republican, and the state voted for Donald Trump overwhelmingly twice. “The prospect of getting rolled after reaching a deal with Chuck Schumer to advance Democratic climate-change priorities isn’t going to help him in that kind of environment,” The Western Journal surmised, adding: “It can’t do much for his self-respect, either.”

For his part, in late July, Manchin would not commit to supporting Biden in 2024.

Rockets Fired From Gaza

Joyce,

In response to the most recent terror attack near the Western Wall, in Jerusalem’s Old City, the following statement was issued by World Jewish Congress President Ambassador Ronald S. Lauder:

Jerusalem’s Old City holds sacred significance to Jews, Muslims, and Christians. Sadly, it has again been turned into a site of tragedy.

The recent attack near the Western Wall, in Jerusalem’s Old City, is a stark reminder that rocket fire from Gaza isn’t the only threat that the people of Israel face.

They must constantly remain vigilant of the danger that might lurk around the next corner. The thoughts of the Jewish world are with the victims of this heinous act. We wish them the swiftest recovery possible.

………………………………………………

And yet there are still people who blame Israel instead of the people who are behind the terrorists attacks that involve Jerusalem’s Old City that has so many historical places for Jews, Muslims, and Christians alike.

Attacks began in 2001. Since then (August 2014 data), almost 20,000 rockets have hit southern Israel, all but a few thousand of them since Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in August 2005. Hamas justified these as counter-attacks to the Israeli blockade of Gaza. The rockets have killed 28 people and injured hundreds more. The range of the rockets has increased over time. The original Qassam rocket has a range of about 10 km (6.2 mi) but more advanced rockets, including versions of the old Soviet Grad or Katyusha have hit Israeli targets 40 km (25 mi) from Gaza.

Some analysts see the attacks as a shift away from reliance on suicide bombing, which was previously Hamas’s main method of attacking Israel, as an adoption of the rocket tactics used by Lebanese group Hezbollah.

Participating groups

All the Palestinian armed groups carry out rocket and mortar attacks, with varying frequency. The main groups are Hamas, Islamic Jihad the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Popular Resistance Committees, Fatah, and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine. In June 2007 Hamas took over from Fatah as the de facto governing authority in the Gaza Strip, while Fatah holds the presidency of the Palestinian National Authority.

Islamic Jihad has involved other Palestinians in the activities, running summer camps where children were taught how to hold a Qassam rocket launcher. One Islamic Jihad rocket maker, Awad al-Qiq, was a science teacher and headmaster at a United Nations school. Christopher Gunness, a UNRWA spokesman, said the UN had “zero-tolerance policy towards politics and militant activities in our schools”, but that they “cannot police people’s minds.

Iran is the sponsor of these groups.

Conference Most High

And the day came to pass that representatives of all peoples of the world united in a global convention, to discuss the future of man. In the advanced society of the year 3,000, a specific forum was enlisted to minimize the use of valuable time. After much deliberation, consideration, and delegation, issues of great importance were reached in every arena of discussion, but one – The topic of God.

As the various religious denominations and sects sat perplexed as to how even to begin, for each believed its own beginnings was fashioned originally, solely, and like no others. The great elders and priests now sat speechless and quiet, obviously closed to any other possibility.

The agnostic sector came to the podium and offered the suggestion to at least agree on the existence of a supreme being, but before they were through the atheists and polytheists began a heated discussion on how many, if any, Gods to agree upon.

To solve the erupted dispute, the Native Americans offered their shamanism or spirituality as the prime choice for the whole of humanity, but before their medicine men could finish their reasons of logic, the Rabbis from Israel stood up and began fervently arguing that the God of Abraham could only be chosen, for Abraham’s God was the only true God.

As the Jews debated their truth with vigor, the Christian denominations became enraged that Jesus somehow was not automatically selected as the only true and dominant religion’s focus. As the Buddhists began to disagree with the Jehovah Witnesses, the Hare Kristnas became uncommunicative when the Muslims and Mormons began to offer their views. Within a matter of minutes each and every organization from atheists to Zionists were in an out-of-control altercation. Then the room was silenced, as all eyes looked up to find rays of light penetrating the alabaster and marbled ceilings.

As the Muslims dropped to their knees to bow in the Holy presence, the Rabbis could be heard agreeing it was truly the God of Israel, Adonai. The thunderous voice replied,”Yes, I am the God, Adonai”. In horror, all of the Christian denominations joined in the building of mass confusion, and in a panic demanded to know where their savior was. The heavenly voice reassuringly declared Himself also the Holy Trinity. As the Buddhists meekly ask about their beloved Buddha, the unearthly presence acknowledged Himself as their Buddha. Each religious group in turn ask the Holy presence its identity, and each in turn learned His presence to be their own beloved Deity.

The agnostics conceded that though they did not comprehend the presence they were witnessing, it was real and both “supreme” and “the answer”, but for what they didn’t know. Brooding, the atheists sat silent, quite irritated by the whole unexplained display. When ask why, they answered curtly that nothing had changed, they still refuted any beliefs in a supreme Deity, Creator of anything, and that destiny was man’s illusion for self comfort. The all knowing voice agreed that His place was void of that responsibility since the atheist didn’t seek comfort, intervention or even a hint of connection.

As dialogue continued, each denomination grew more unsettled, frustration mounted causing bursts of anger and negativity between those in attendance. Among the raised voices, a quiet yet peaceful voice rang out creating a hush that enshrouded the room. The Hindu woman’s voice, young and timid, and in simple terms asked, “Who was the God to first?”

Without hesitation, the miraculous voice filled with kindness and understanding replied, “I have always been Father to all my children, from the first moment of life and throughout the years they enlisted my aid, to the last moment of life, and beyond. I show no partiality. I have no divine plan for one and not the others. I am everything to each one of you.”

As the Grand Counsel of men and women sat basking in the unseen smile of a being with no form other than total presence, one question remained. An old frail bodied Taoist man, with eye’s lowered, quietly spoke and politely asked, “If this is all true then why have so many lives been lost through persecution and in wars fought in your name?”

The voice simply replied, “I myself cannot tell you this, for man, not God, is responsible for his own actions. So let me ask you, my son, why?”

Before a word could be uttered, the ray was gone and with it the tremendous presence of Holiness. The priests, rabbis, ministers, polytheists, as well as monotheists, atheists and agnostics all sat with heads bent, thinking both of the answers and question left to man’s accountability to man. Each beginning to absorb the words of wisdom just spoken for all to hear.

Downriver Voters Can Make a Local Impact Furthering Roe v. Wade Overturned

Thank you to Jackie Martin for the June 29 article regarding the Supreme Court decision of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization which overturned the 1973 decision of Roe v. Wade, which had effectively made abortion legal in the U.S. for all nine months of pregnancy for any reason.

https://www.thenewsherald.com/2022/06/27/reaction-to-landmark-roe-v-wade-has-many-downriver-lawmakers-vowing-to-fight/embed/#?secret=Ew62R0HlOG

I am grateful for the quotations in response to that decision of so many of our Downriver elected officials. These Democrats (U.S. Reps. Debbie Dingell and Rashida Tlaib, state Rep. Darrin Camilleri, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer) can no longer hide behind a rhetoric of vague compassion. Their words tell clearly that they are in favor of allowing and encouraging through the power of government, the annual slaughter of nearly 1 million babies in the womb. These children, the future of our country, are being murdered daily for their crime of being inconvenient, the wrong sex, or imperfect.

This November, we voters have the responsibility to replace these legislators by electing candidates who will defend the weakest members of society. Only the Republican party platform of 2016, reissued in 202,0 reiterates the Declaration of Independence that declares the inalienable right to life as well as the need to strengthen families of a mother and father with their natural children as the means to give more children a path to success which in turn strengthens our country.

In that same issue of The News-Herald, columnist Craig Farrand expressed his flawed opinion and disappointment at the SCOTUS decision. He touts the core foundations of “personal freedoms, privacy, a separation of church and state, limits to government intrusion and, ultimately, the right to live your life as you see fit – as long as your beliefs don’t translate into actions that inflict themselves on anyone else.”  But that’s the flaw because abortion is an action that directly kills the unborn child, a separate person from the mother.

I was most offended by his flawed analysis when he claims that three justices were illegitimate appointments because he did not consider President Trump to have been properly elected. Following the wisdom of the Constitution and election laws governing our republic, Donald Trump was duly and legally elected. There is no reason to continue the sour grapes attitude and disrespect of our former president.

I do agree with Mr. Farrand that we should “elect people at the national and state levels who will defend … the rights of minorities, the weak and those in need.” Unborn babies and their mothers certainly fall into that category.

The people of Michigan have a long history of defending a culture of life.

• 1846 – Michigan law banned abortion

• 1931 – When the Michigan legal code was updated, the 1846 law was unchanged

• 1972 – Ballot proposal that would have legalized abortion was defeated 61% to 39% (This was invalidated by the Roe v. Wade decision of Jan. 22, 1973.)

• 1988 – Through a petition drive and vote of 57% to 43%, a ban on tax-funded Medicaid abortions was enacted

• 1998 – Vote of 71% to 29% made assisted suicide illegal

• 2013 – A successful petition drive for initiated legislation eliminated (Obamacare) mandated abortion coverage in health insurance plans

There are 150 pregnancy help centers in Michigan (1-800-57-WOMAN) with four of them Downriver.  They offer material help and various levels of medical help and support for mothers and families in need. They are prepared to expand their services to help more mothers during pregnancy and after their baby’s birth.

In 1980, the Democrat party made the choice not to defend the lives of the unborn. Although Downriver has long been a Democrat stronghold, it is time to change that for the most foundational issue of justice in our time. We can debate policy, taxes, how to fund the roads and other issues, but protecting human life is nonnegotiable.

During the ratification process of the U.S. Constitution, George Washington wrote the following which is still good advice:

“No one can rejoice more than I do at every step taken by the People of this great Country to preserve the Union — establish good order & government — and to render the Nation happy at home & respected abroad. No Country upon Earth ever had it more in its power to attain these blessings than United America. Wonderously strange then, & much to be regretted indeed would it be, were we to neglect the means, and to stray from the road to which the finger of Providence has so manifestly pointed. I cannot believe it will ever come to pass! The great Author of all good has not conducted us so far on the Road to happiness and glory to withdraw from us, in the hour of need, his beneficent support. By folly & misconduct (proceeding from a variety of causes) we may now & then get bewildered; but I hope, and trust, that there is good sense and virtue enough left to bring us back into the right way before we shall be entirely lost.”

We will continue to pray and work to defend the lives of the innocent babies in the womb who have no voice.

Ed Kroll is president of Upper Downriver Right to Life.

Our women, girls, and two-spirits are being taken from us in an alarming way. As of 2016, the National Crime Information Center has reported 5,712 cases of missing American Indian and Alaska Native women and girls. Strikingly, the U.S Department of Justice missing persons database has only reported 116 cases. The majority of these murders are committed by non-Native people on Native-owned land. The lack of communication combined with jurisdictional issues between state, local, federal, and tribal law enforcement, make it nearly impossible to begin the investigative process.

The above link is really great in showing the problems and showing the difference in states that have no records at all. This needs to be taken seriously, and any input you have in helping them be it posting on your media sites, becoming a member, contacting your representatives, donating even a small amount o aid in the work, newspapers, TV channels, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

WHAT IS THE GOVERNMENT DOING TO HELP THE NATIVE AMERICAN TRIBES?

(Excerpt from PBS)

Nov 26, 2019 President Donald Trump signed an executive action on Nov. 26 to address concerns over missing Native American women. The order creates an interagency task force aimed at improving efforts to find out what has happened to Native Americans who have gone missing and prevent the murders of native women. The U.S. government also plans to distribute grants to improve safety in Native American communities. “We will deliver justice for the victims, closure for the families and safety to those in harm’s way,” Trump said. Native American leaders who attended the signing ceremony thanked Trump for taking action and emphasized how murders have affected their communities. “We cannot have this happening anymore,” said Melanie Benjamin, the chief executive of the Non-Removable Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.

Despite what anyone thinks about President Trump, the important thing here is how and what the various nations had to say.

President Biden issues proclamation for missing and murdered relatives – Thursday, May 5, 2022

President Joe Biden issued a proclamation declaring May 5 as Missing or Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day. “For generations, Indigenous persons, including American Indians, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians, have been forced to mourn a missing or murdered loved one without the answers and support they deserve,” the proclamation from the White House states. “On Missing or Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day, we remember these victims and their families, and commit to working with Tribal Nations and Native communities to achieve justice and healing.” “The Federal Government has an obligation to ensure that cases of missing or murdered persons are met with swift and effective action,” the proclamation continues. “My Administration is fully committed to investigating and resolving these cases through a coordinated law enforcement response, as well as intervention and prevention efforts. We are also dedicated to researching the underlying causes of this violence and to working with Native communities to address them.”

According to Biden, the Department of Justice is “working closely with Tribal Nations to develop regionally appropriate guidelines for these cases.” The apparent lack of progress in creating these guidelines had been raised in a bipartisan letter sent by key members of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs earlier this week. “The Department of Justice has created a dedicated steering committee to oversee and coordinate this critical work, including an outreach services liaison for Federal criminal cases in Indian Country,” Biden states in the proclamation. The proclamation otherwise does not directly mention Savanna’s Act or the Not Invisible Act, both of which became law in October 2020, before Biden took office. Native women and their advocates have called on the federal government to implement the two laws in order to help address the crisis of missing and murdered people in Indian Country. But Biden touts his signing of the Violence Against Women Act. The new law recognizes the inherent authority of tribes to prosecute non-Indians for a broader set of crimes. It also recognizes the sovereignty of tribes in Alaska, who had been left out of the 2013 version of VAWA. “This important law expands special criminal jurisdiction of Tribal courts to cover non-Native perpetrators of sexual assault, child abuse, stalking, sex trafficking, and assaults on Tribal law enforcement officers on Tribal lands and supports the development of a pilot project to enhance access to safety for survivors in Alaska Native villages,” the proclamation states.

(Excerpt from NC Policy Watch)

President Joe Biden signed an executive order on Monday, November 16, 2021, addressing violence against Indigenous communities.

“These efforts are a matter of dignity,” Biden said during the opening ceremony for the White House Tribal Nations Summit. “That’s the foundation of our nation-to-nation partnership.”

The executive order directs the departments of Justice, Interior, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services to create a strategy that will improve the public safety and justice for Native Americans, as well as address the crisis of missing or murdered Indigenous peoples.

“I’m proud to sign it. It’s long overdue,” Biden said while signing the order on Monday. “We’re going to make some substantial changes in Indian Country, and it’s going to continue.”

——————————————————————————————————————–

As of today, August 6, 2022, these are just more promises made but promises not kept but that isn’t anything new when it comes to the Native American nations. What is different though is that there was a time when the news would carry and report on stories like this, but now-a-days, they are all bought and paid for by political parties, and this is why it is imperative that people become more involved and contact the various medias demanding more coverage about this problem, and to use Facebook and Twitter to spread the word. WE ARE OUR BROTHER’S KEEPER!

UP AND RUNNING AGAIN!

I am happy to say that Downriver Activism & Empathy is up and running again after taking a long sabbatical. Once again I will be sharing some ideas for peaceful activism on a variety of subjects; however, a lot of time will be spent on the problems in the Native American communities, and to inform people on what is happening and how we can help.
